Texas is one of the biggest home health markets in the country. The median hourly rate sits at $13.90, but there is huge variation between metros and rural counties.
Austin and Dallas pay several dollars above the median. Rural East Texas and border counties fall below it — sometimes at minimum wage floors.
The state has strong Medicaid waiver programs that fund private-pay clients. Aides who build a direct-hire book (families paying out of pocket) often earn $18 to $22 an hour.
