10. Legal Nurse Consultant — $95K – $130K

Legal Nurse Consultants review medical records for law firms, insurance carriers, and government agencies. It is one of the few nursing roles that trades scrubs for a laptop full-time, and it consistently clears six figures for experienced consultants with a clinical background of at least five years.
The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants offers the LNCC credential, which requires 2,000 hours of legal nurse consulting experience and passing an exam. Many LNCs work independently or contract through firms, which changes both the schedule and the tax picture significantly.
AALNC surveys and job board data from Vivian Health and Indeed put full-time LNC pay in the $95K to $130K range, with independent consultants often billing $125 to $200 per hour. Case volume drives the top of the range, and most LNCs specialize in one or two clinical areas like ICU, ED, or OB.
