Telehealth nursing moved from novelty to mainstream between 2020 and 2024, and it has not slowed down. Payers, health systems, and dedicated telehealth companies like Teladoc and Amwell all staff RN triage lines that take patient calls, apply protocols, and route to the right level of care.
Most telehealth RN roles require at least two years of clinical experience — ED, ICU, or primary care are the most common backgrounds. Multi-state licensure through the Nurse Licensure Compact is almost always required because calls come in across state lines all day.
Vivian Health and Nurse.com data show telehealth RN pay of $75K to $98K, with pediatric telehealth and specialty triage roles at the top of the range. Shift work is standard because triage lines run 24/7, and night and weekend differentials often add $6K to $10K annually to base pay.
